During his time with the Port he developed the PBC Land Use Plan, Key Port Brisbane Master Plan and was on the Steering Committee for the Gateway Ports Strategic Plan. As Manager Port Operations he was responsible for the maintenance of all port infrastructure including wharves, buildings and port roads. He was instrumental in establishing the Development Assessment function at PBC. These planning activities and his responsibility for all commercial and planning negotiations on over 2,000 of Port land enabled him to establish an extensive network within the Council and State Government. He also assisted the BCC Urban Management Division to develop a 2025 Futures Paper for publication by the Council.
Garry has an extensive financé background resulting from his strategic planning roles at Metway Bank and his role as the State Manager Financial Planning. While at the Bank he established and ran the Financial Planning Service, helped establish the commercial lending division, developed their ADF and Superannuation Products and wrote the Strategic Plan which resulted in the conversion of the Metropolitan Permanent Building Society to a Bank. He has also played a key role in funding infrastructure eg Port Road, Leasing of the Brisbane Airport, and Development of a $7.5 million multipurpose warehouse at Appleton Dock in Melbourne.
Garry holds a Master of Business Administration (major Finance) and Bachelor of Business (majors Personnel Management and Marketing) He is qualified as an Accountant and has satisfied the ASX membership requirements. He has also studied civil engineering and worked with McWilliam and Partners Consulting Engineers.
Garry has been a Director of a public unlisted property development Binnaton Holdings Limited since its formation in 2005 and wrote the business plan underlying its development. He has over 8 years experience as a Director and Secretary of two private consultancy companies involved in Property Remediation and eCommerce. Garry was successful in convincing Mirvac to trial its environmentally friendly biotechnology solution on the Newstead River Park site at Newstead.
